Hi, I’m Elisa Martinez Rojas, a marketing student currently studying at university. As someone passionate about creativity, strategy and all things digital, I was really excited to spend some time gaining hands-on work experience at RIMU Marketing alongside Sophie and the team. I’ve always believed that the best way to learn is by doing and this week certainly proved that right!
From attending client meetings to getting stuck into creative projects, my time at RIMU Marketing has given me a deeper understanding of how a marketing agency works day-to-day. I was also able to contribute to live projects, ask lots of questions and learn from a team that is enthusiastic and expert in the industry.
Here’s what I got up to during my week . . . .
Monday: Introductions
We started the week with an introduction meeting, which helped me understand the structure of the agency, the types of clients RIMU Marketing works with and what the week ahead would involve. It was the perfect way to settle in and set expectations.
Later that morning, I had the chance to attend my first client meeting in person. It was great to see how Sophie structured the session setting a clear agenda, discussing current marketing activity and identifying next steps. It gave me insight into the client-agency relationship and what makes these meetings so productive.
In the afternoon, I jumped on a Canva call with Polly, where I saw how the team collaborates remotely and creatively. I also started working on one of my first projects: creating a short promotional reel for RIMU Marketing’s strategy service and working on some social media posts.
Tuesday: A Creative Deep Dive
Tuesday was project day! I focused on several tasks across the RIMU Marketing brand and its clients, including:
- Designing quote graphics and social media memes to share marketing tips on Instagram and LinkedIn.
- Researching potential local businesses that RIMU Marketing might want to connect with.
- Starting this very blog post, to reflect on my experience and share my takeaways from the week.
The day flew by, and I really enjoyed the mix of creative and strategic thinking the projects required.
Wednesday: More projects and client conversations
Wednesday morning was spent continuing with ongoing projects and starting new ones for two of our clients from the sports and print industry. These projects included researching and identifying potential candidates for a competition and then organising the information in an Excel spreadsheet. For the second, print client, I sourced relevant contacts for their next conference and compiled the details in a separate spreadsheet.
In the afternoon, I joined Sophie for a third client meeting, a client from the sports industry. We discussed the competitor landscape for one of their services, and it was interesting to see how desk research and insights feed into broader marketing strategies.
Thursday: Out and About at Bracknell Expo
Thursday was an exciting change of scenery, as Sophie and I headed out to the Bracknell Expo—a B2B event full of networking opportunities and inspiring seminars.
We attended a particularly insightful session on AI in business, which explored how artificial intelligence can streamline processes, improve customer engagement, and enhance decision-making. It sparked a lot of ideas, and I can see how this technology will continue to shape the future of marketing.
Back in the afternoon, we joined a wellbeing client, for a meeting. Once again, I observed how Sophie structures meetings to make the most of the time and keep things moving forward.
Friday: Wrapping Up and Reflecting
On Friday, it was time to finalise all my projects and look over the work I’d been doing throughout the week during my work experience. This included:
- Completing my Canva reel for RIMU Marketing’s strategy service.
- Finalising the quote graphics and memes in Canva.
- Compiling the research findings for potential new clients.
I also picked up a few new tasks, like updating all the important marketing dates for RIMU Marketing’s 2026 content calendar. This gave me a better understanding of the importance of planning and aligning content with seasonal trends. I also made sure to carry on working on the blog and reflect on everything I’d learned.
My take aways from my week with RIMU Marketing
This experience has been incredibly valuable, not just in terms of skills, but also in confidence. I’ve learned how to:
- Communicate professionally with clients.
- Use tools like Canva to create content efficiently.
- Carry out market research with a purpose.
- Understand the strategic thinking behind marketing decisions.
- Balance creativity with organisation and planning.
More than anything, it’s confirmed my interest in the marketing world and my excitement to learn even more as I progress in my degree. This week, I loved how varied each day was from creative Canva projects to client meetings and research tasks. Working alongside Sophie gave me a clear picture of what agency life is like and it was great to see how different projects move forward in real time. I also appreciated how welcoming and encouraging everyone was!
However, I have also learned that one of the biggest challenges in marketing is standing out in such a crowded digital space. With so many brands competing for attention, it’s harder than ever to stay relevant and keep audiences engaged. That’s why creativity, authenticity and strategy are more important than ever.
Final Thoughts
Moving forward with my next steps in my career, I’ll be heading into my second year of university, where I’ll be continuing to develop my knowledge of marketing and looking for more opportunities to keep gaining experience. I’m especially excited to explore more areas of branding and content marketing.
This week at RIMU Marketing has given me a fantastic insight into the marketing industry and what it takes to run successful campaigns for a range of clients. A big thank you to Sophie and the RIMU team for being so welcoming, encouraging, and inspiring. I’m incredibly grateful to Sophie and the team for taking the time to share their knowledge and letting me get involved. It’s been a brilliant week that has educated and motivated me, definitely one I’ll remember! I’m excited to see where my marketing journey takes me next!
